We are currently seeking a full-time, non-exempt Survey Crew Chief to guide a survey team. As a Survey Crew Chief, you will play a key role in performing accurate and efficient field surveys for a variety of exciting projects – ranging from land development and transportation to utilities, energy and more. You will use the latest in GPS, robotic surveying, and laser scanning technologies to contribute to BHB’s company goals. You will work along with the survey team to provide abstract research, ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys, Boundary and Easement Surveys, construction staking and volume calculations, design surveys, tree surveys, topographic mapping, unmanned aerial systems (UAS), and utility mapping.

Physical Demands & Environment
This role involves strenuous activities, including extended periods of standing, walking, and hiking across diverse and challenging terrains, often requiring the lifting and carrying of up to 50 lbs. Regular activities include, but not limited to, bending, squatting, digging, and reaching overhead. Other activities include driving stakes with a sledgehammer and safely operating a machete or brush hook to cut brush.
Additionally, expect exposure to environmental elements such as hot and cold temperatures, sun, rain, high winds, poison ivy, wildlife, water, and pollen.
Travel
Local travel is required throughout the day to drive to project sites and complete survey work. A company vehicle and fuel will be provided. Occasional overnight travel may be requested during the week.
Position Type and Schedule
This is a full-time, exempt position, with an expectation to work 40 hours per week. BHB offers flexible scheduling options, including five 8-hour days or four 10-hour days. Although overtime is not required, it is requested at times to meet our clients’ needs.

In this role you can expect to perform the following tasks. This is not an exhaustive list:
- Independently conduct field surveys or lead a crew, ensuring all work is performed accurately, efficiently, and safely within the scope and budget of each project.
- Offer supervision and mentoring of other survey crew members while promoting a positive and productive team environment.
- Utilize Trimble GPS, Trimble Robotic Total Stations, Trimble Data Collectors, GNSS, and other specialized equipment for data collection and construction layouts.
- Perform in-field calculations, construction stakeouts, prepare cut sheets, and verify the validity of the collected data while collaborating with office staff when needed.
- Prepare clear, detailed field notes and daily reports, and promptly transfer digital data and photos to the office team.
- Interact professionally with project site supervisors and client representatives, providing a high level of service and communication.
- Act as the site safety leader, promoting and following all corportate and client health and safety policies, reviewing hazards, PPE requirements, and ensuring all crew members are informed and protected.
- Maintain and operate survey vehicles, instruments, and equipment responsibly and in accordance with company procedures.
We require:
- Minimum of three years of experience as a Crew Chief in boundary and topographic, ALTA, TXDOT, or construction staking surveys.
- Experience with Trimble Robotic Total Stations, Trimble Data Collectors, and GPS equipment.
- Valid Texas driver's license with the ability to drive a company vehicle to various locations in the DFW Metroplex to complete surveying tasks.
- Ability to work closely with an integrated multi-disciplinary team under tight deadlines and communicate clearly – both in writing and verbally.
